With reference to the letter from this office of the 18th March,
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to trans.nit herewith
for the information of Mr. Secretary Harcourt, copy of a
letter from the British-American Tobacco Company, requesting
His Majesty's Goverment to approach the Japanese Coverament
in order that the British Cigarette Company, Limited, may
be allowed to register their trade-marka in Japan in their
own name.
Sir E, Grey pronoses, subject to the concurrence of
Mr. Harcourt, to inform the British-American Tobacco
Company that now that Hongkong has acceded to the Anglo-
Japanese Commercial Treaty of 1911, Hongkong companies will
be able to register their marks in Japan in the name of
